The Spiritual Shift: Day #2 The Triune God

 Day #2 God–the Trinity

“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” ~ Deuteronomy 6:4-5

Welcome back to day #2! Keep in mind our goal for this first week is righting our relationship with Almighty God. In order to follow the command of the verse from Deuteronomy, we must attempt to grasp the complex omnipotence of the Almighty.

We typically can understand that a company works for one goal and yet it has many parts. We also realize how a team consists of players, coaches, managers, etc. Each is important; each has a role, and yet, unified, they create one team. Families also are intended to function in this way.

Our Triune God is the ultimate example of this. Our God consists of the Heavenly Father, the Holy Spirit, and Jesus the Son. While each has unique characteristics, they function as the I AM. A thorough reading of the Bible enlightens us about this multi-faceted and loving God.

In my previous book, The Spiritual Sync (on Day #8), I shared information about the Holy Spirit that may further enrich one’s view  of the Trinity. Our understanding–and, in turn our relationship–deepens when we pray for wisdom and study Scripture to learn more about our unique and loving Triune God.

Our routine:
Assessment: What is the current condition of my relationship with God, the Trinity?
  • What is the purpose of this relationship?
  • What is the state of this relationship? What is going well? What isn’t?
  • What changes need to be made to this relationship?

When was the last time I considered God as the Trinity: three in one. God, the Father; God, the Son; and God, the Holy Spirit?

Adjustment: Read and reflect on Bible verses in order to adjust our focus from a world view to a spiritual view.

Yesterday’s verses were purposeful in preparation for today. In Day #1, we read about the reaction to God in the Old Testament, we read about the events around Jesus’ death, and we read verses about the Spirit’s arrival at Pentecost. Each of these reveal an aspect of the Trinity, and yet each work to reveal the character of our Unified God.

Exodus 3:14

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

John 1: 1-2, 14

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning…The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 14:26

(Jesus is speaking) “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

Take some time to process the numerous characteristics of the Triune God that are revealed in the following powerful Psalm. It is as humbling as when we moved into adulthood and first had the realization of all that our parents did for us each and every day–oftentimes without us realizing–and unfortunately, without our gratitude.

Psalm 91

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge;

His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

Nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand,

But it will not come near you.

You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

If you say, ‘The LORD is my refuge,’ and you make the Most High your dwelling,

No harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

They will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

You will tread on the lion and the cobra;

You will trample the great lion and the serpent.

‘Because he loves me,’ says the LORD, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect him for he acknowledges my name.

He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

Think back on yesterday and consider all the times when “I AM” was present and protecting and guiding you throughout the day. This awareness and acknowledgment can lead us to a much deeper appreciation of the Almighty, and in turn a deeper relationship with the Almighty.

Romans 1:20

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

Revelation 4:11

“‘You are worthy, our Lord and God,

To receive glory and honor and power,

For you created all things,

And by your will they were created and have their being.’”

Alignment: Pray. Communicate with the Almighty. We have a loving Father as a Protector. We have a loving Brother in Jesus, who was willing to come as a sacrifice for us. We have a loving Holy Spirit as a Guide.

Prayer: Father, Son, Holy Spirit, we are so grateful for this Holy Family. We are grateful that you are the I AM. You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power. We love You and we submit to Your authority in our lives. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” ~Micah 6:8
